F	Francesco Leanza on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa madre di Cesarò risale almeno al XVI secolo, dal momento che viene citata in una relatio del vescovo di Messina datata al 1578, da assumere quindi come terminus ante quem. È una chiesa dalla pianta a croce latina, a tre navate, contenente al suo interno una serie di grandi tele a olio, rispettivamente collocate nei transetti, in cui è stato ritratto uno dei duchi Colonna di Cesarò. Nella navata centrale si trova la tomba di Giovanni Antonio Colonna, duca di Cesarò alla metà del '700, e unico appartenente alla famiglia sepolto in paese. Di grande pregio il pulpito ligneo di probabile fabbrica seicentesca, e il crocefisso ligneo dipinto, attribuito alla scuola siciliana dello Zoppo di Gangi. La facciata esterna doveva presentarsi meravigliosa, realizzata in blocchi di arenaria ben squadrati, ma purtroppo è stata intonacata nel XX secolo. The mother church of Cesarò dates back at least to the 16th century, since it is mentioned in a relatio of the bishop of Messina dated 1578, to be therefore taken as terminus ante quem. It is a church with a Latin cross plan, with three naves, containing inside a series of large oil paintings, respectively placed in the transepts, in which one of the Dukes Colonna di Cesarò was portrayed. In the central nave there is the tomb of Giovanni Antonio Colonna, duke of Cesarò in the mid-eighteenth century, and the only one belonging to the family buried in the village. Of great value are the wooden pulpit of probable seventeenth-century construction, and the painted wooden crucifix, attributed to the Sicilian school of the Zoppo di Gangi. The external facade must have been wonderful, made of well-squared sandstone blocks, but unfortunately it was plastered in the 20th century.

Nel tempo essa è stata oggetto di diverse opere di restauro, la più imponente delle quali fu la riedificazione quasi totale effettuata durante i primi anni del Seicento. Al suo interno la Chiesa conserva ancora oggi la maggior parte degli arredi originali. Tra questi, di notevole interesse artistico è un pregiato dipinto su tavola raffigurante il Crocifisso, opera attribuita alla scuola di Giotto. Degno di particolare attenzione risulta poi il pregevole trittico ligneo della Sacra Famiglia, attribuibile a Filippo Quattrocchi (sec.XVIII). Si possono ammirare, infine, due suggestivi dipinti riconducibili a Giuseppe Salerno (1570-1632). Consecrated to the Madonna Assunta, the Mother Church was built in the main square of the village in a period prior to the seventeenth century. Over time it has undergone several restoration works, the most impressive of which was the almost total rebuilding carried out during the early seventeenth century. Inside, the Church still retains most of the original furnishings. Among these, of considerable artistic interest is a valuable painting on wood depicting the Crucifix, a work attributed to Giotto's school. Worthy of particular attention is the valuable wooden triptych of the Holy Family, attributable to Filippo Quattrocchi (XVIII century). Finally, you can admire two evocative paintings attributable to Giuseppe Salerno (1570-1632).
