The church stands on a vast, completely rocky cliff that gives us wonderful and suggestive views. From the church we can admire the enchanting islet of S. EUFEMIA where the lighthouse is located.

The church of San Francesco di Vieste is located in the easternmost area of the historic center of the city. The church is also enhanced by its position. A	Andrea Chiariello on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sia la chiesa che il convento sorgono sull'omonima Punta, a Levante del centro urbano di Vieste e dell'antica rada portuale, ove, scavate nella roccia calcarea, si osservano foveae (fosse granarie) e tombe rettangolari di età classica ed altomedievale. Fondato nel 1438, il complesso viene retto dalle monache Clarisse sotto il titolo di S. Caterina d'Alessandria. Originariamente extra moenia, nel 1480, viene distrutto nel sacco di Acmet Pascià, rais al servizio di Maometto II. Nel 1546, è documentata la presenza dei Padri Conventuali Minori. Tra il XVI ed il XVII secolo, il convento viene inglobato in un potente baluardo, a nord ed a sud-est, dotato di rispettivo bastione scarpato e cannoniere. La chiesa è costituita da una sola navata con soffitto a capriate lignee dipinte e chiusa da abside quadrangolare voltata a crociera. Sulla navata si aprono sei cappelle, di cui due corredate di altari lignei dipinti e dorati e tele del Settecento. Founded in 1438, the complex is run by the Clarisse nuns under the title of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Originally extra moenia, in 1480, it was destroyed in the sack of Acmet Pascià, rais in the service of Mohammed II. In 1546, the presence of the Minor Conventual Fathers is documented. Between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the convent was incorporated into a powerful bulwark, to the north and to the south-east, with its respective rampart and gunboat. The church consists of a single nave with a painted wooden truss ceiling and closed by a quadrangular cross vaulted apse. On the nave there are six chapels, two of which are equipped with painted and gilded wooden altars and eighteenth-century canvases.

R	Ramsay Peterson on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing place. I woke up early and took a walk to see the view of Vieste. The church is amazingly peaceful inside. They have daily morning mass at 710am. The timings are as shown in the picture. I was fortunate to catch the tail-end of a mass. There were 10 people there. I loved the singing and the recitation of the Lord's prayer.
