The Church of San Gaetano has been closed for many years, now restored it is part of a small museum area where the beautiful advertisements of the "Salce collection" dating back to the 40s / 50s are displayed.

Si trova nelle vicinanze della Parrocchia di Santa Maria Maggiore della quale dipende. Fu costruita, assieme all’ospizio agli inizi del XIII secolo. Dall’antica struttura sono rimaste, in prossimità alla torre campanaria, l’abside, con alcune parti affrescate risalenti al periodo romanico. Con la soppressione dell’Ordine dei Templari in seguito alla bolla di Clemente V agli inizi del XIV secolo, la chiesa divenne proprietà dei Gerosolimitani (Cavalieri di Malta) che le attribuirono il nome di San Giovanni al Tempio. Nel corso della storia della chiesa il nome è il suo culto mutarono dall’originario San Giovanni Battista del Tempio a quello odierno di San Gaetano da Thiene in omaggio al santo di Vicenza cui si votò la chiesa nel XVI secolo. Nel 1509 la chiesa subì una ristrutturazione per opera del maestro Antonio Maria da Milano. Un secondo rimaneggiamento della chiesa si ebbe nella seconda metà del ‘700, in occasione del quale l’originale aspetto gotico lascio, il posto all’attuale che presenta numerose pitture contornate da cornici a stucco. Nel 1770 la chiesa fu dotata di un organo a ventitré canne in stagno disposte a cuspide, opera di Gaetano Callido di Venezia, in seguito rimaneggiato dall’organaro Tolfo di San Vito al Tagliamento, che cambiando alcune canne, apportò modifiche sostanziali alla composizione fonica. Finalmente nel 1993 l’organo fu restaurato grazie all’intervento dell’organaro Francesco Zuin da Codroipo che l’ha riportato alle antiche qualità foniche. One of the smallest churches in Treviso, now deconsecrated and used for cultural events which, due to its history and the beauty of the works it houses, make it interesting to know its history briefly. It is located near the Parish of Santa Maria Maggiore on which it depends. It was built, together with the hospice in the early thirteenth century. From the ancient structure, near the bell tower, the apse remains, with some frescoed parts dating back to the Romanesque period. With the suppression of the Order of the Templars following the bull of Clement V in the early 14th century, the church became the property of the Gerosolimitani (Knights of Malta) who attributed it the name of San Giovanni al Tempio. In the course of the history of the church, the name and its cult changed from the original San Giovanni Battista del Tempio to today's San Gaetano da Thiene in homage to the saint of Vicenza to whom the church was voted in the sixteenth century. In 1509 the church underwent a renovation by the master Antonio Maria from Milan. A second rearrangement of the church took place in the second half of the 1700s, on the occasion of which the original Gothic aspect I leave, the place to the present one that features numerous paintings surrounded by stucco frames. In 1770 the church was equipped with a twenty-three pipe organ in tin arranged in a cusp, the work of Gaetano Callido of Venice, later remodeled by the organ builder Tolfo di San Vito al Tagliamento, who, by changing some pipes, made substantial changes to the sound composition. Finally in 1993 the organ was restored thanks to the intervention of the organ builder Francesco Zuin da Codroipo who restored it to its ancient sound qualities.

L'interno é ad unica navata, a pianta longitudinale in stile rinascimentale. Non ha elementi particolarmente interessanti, ma da notare: - opere di Giambattista Canal. Ingresso: libero. Data della mia visita: 7/03/2020 The former church of San Gaetano is located in the historic center of Treviso, today it is deconsecrated. The structure dates back to 1200. The facade is in Renaissance style. The interior has a single nave, with a longitudinal plan in Renaissance style.
