For the simplicity for feeling truly close to God. The proximity of the catacombs ... the rite officiated according to the Coptic rite, the presence of another ethnic group and the welcome of all present gives you hope of a universal brotherhood.

According to tradition, the first church was built in 262 (3rd century AD) by the fourth bishop of the city Sant'Everio and dedicated to Santa Maria di Betlem. In a lava cave already used as a cistern, and dedicated to Santa Maria [4]. The temple was probably enlarged in the seventh century, and perhaps in this period the apogee church of San Gaetano rose, at that time perhaps dedicated to Santa Maria La Grotta

Visited with "Associazione Etna 'Ngeniousa", Underground Catania Tour. Awesome place with an hypogean little church, great place of devotion and history, since it is thought to be the first resting place of St. Agata. Moreover, the guide told us the church is often "lent" to other christian churches (Coptic and Orthodox), which makes it also a place of cultural meeting.
