Very large Catholic place of worship, open to all, the icons of the Mother of God are one more beautiful than the other, I highly recommend visiting it, often after the Eucharistic celebration at 11.00 we pray together the Angelus or some other Marian prayer . The priests who lead the prayers transmit peace and faith.

The Basilica is located in Piazza Carlo Alberto in Catania. Piazza that during the week hosts the market called "fera o luni" by the people of Catania, which together with the "piscaria" are the oldest markets in Catania.
The church stands in an area once used as a necropolis.
It was rebuilt in 1729, after the terrible earthquake of 1693 and consecrated in 1880 and 1883, when the venerated 18th century image of the Madonna by Sebastiano Ceccarini da Fano depicting the gift of the Scapular to St. Simon Stock was solemnly crowned.
In November 1988, Pope John Paul II elevated it to the dignity of a minor basilica and consecrated it by the archbishop, Monsignor Domenico Picchinenna.
Internally it looks like a somewhat simple basilica of ornaments and paintings. It could be improved with some minor restoration.

A very sumptuous Basilica, with a long history (it was also a monastery) and well cared for by its parishioners. The humble remain in front of the entrance, among homeless people trying to sell holy cards, surrounding buildings left to themselves (a former parking lot stands out) at the bottom of the square and a Kasbah-style city market in the morning. So, it's definitely worth a visit. Possibly, in the evening.

Our dear Carmelite church in Catania. In his time, our dear Carmelite friar had beautiful stained glass windows made by hand by artists representing our Carmelite saints. You can admire in this splendid church the setting of a market full of stalls
