First Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie, it was once called the Basilica of Santa Maria de Russis.

The Church of San Giacomo is perhaps the most important one in Trani. In the room below the church there is the tomb of San Nicola Pellegrino to whom the beautiful cathedral is dedicated. But this church was the first cathedral. Few people know and San Nicolino (to differentiate him from the Bishop of Mira patron of Bari) rests forgotten by most. This church was opened when several associations took over the burden (free of charge). If you see the state in which there is the tomb: surrounded by a concrete curb and with the Holy Image which due to the dust is difficult to see. I took a picture. I do not pretend to understand what the body responsible for safeguarding this site is doing (to date, if it intervened, it has not produced any valuable results). I want to hope that His Excellency, Archbishop, will take a walk (it is not far from the Archbishop's Palace) and arrange work to make this place of worship decent. You don't have to worry about the money: the people of Tranesi contributed to the construction of the Cathedral with their donations and will not back down to give their patron a worthy home. By the way, San Nicola Pellegrino was made a saint by popular acclamation and the Bishop of the time wanted and had to listen to the people. I hope everything happens again. This time it is not a question of naming a saint but of carrying out some restorations. Who knows if a procession can make the people of Tranesi understand where their saint rests. Thank you. I would not like San Nicolino to come in a dream and say. "no many conferences but restructuring works". This church cannot be transformed into a restaurant and not because it is unhealthy.
