Hospital founded by a woman, Antonella Palagano, of the order of the Poor Clares, had two buildings linked by an arch. The name of the chapel, S. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bellissima chiesa situata nel centro storico di Trani, proprio a due passi dalla altrettanto bellissima cattedrale di San Nicola.
Costruita nel XV secolo ad opera della nobildonna tranese Antonella Palagano Vedova Lionello, venne totalmente restaurata nel 1770. All’interno spicca un pregevole altare di marmi policromi consacrato nel 1783 oltre a dipinti di pittori famosi come il napoletano Filippo Falciatore con il Battesimo di Gesù, ed il tranese Nicola Benzene con la Madonna con Bambino e San Francesco. E' da notare la ricca decorazione a stucco delle pareti tipica caratteristica del settecento. Visita consigliata.
Beautiful church located in the historic center of Trani, just a stone's throw from the equally beautiful Cathedral of San Nicola.
Built in the fifteenth century by the noblewoman Antonella Palagano Widow Lionello Trani, was completely restored in 1770. The interior also features a fine altar in polychrome marble consecrated in 1783 as well as paintings by famous painters such as the Neapolitan Filippo Mower with the baptism of Jesus, and the Nicola Benzene tranese with the Madonna with Child and Saint Francis. Note the rich stucco decoration of the walls, typical of the eighteenth century. Recommended visit.
