★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went by stairs all the way up there, It was quite an effort, but for sure It was worth It, wonderfull view of the old town and the greek teather, not tô mention the cute and very curious style church to visit. If you have time, I recomend the visit, and it's also possible to arrive there by car If you have one.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A best kept secret! You can either drive or hike to the church. We drove and easily found parking. You can also hike up to the castle next to the church and there are beautiful views along that short hike as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The church of the Madonna della Rocca, which seems to date back to the 12th century but was restored in the 17th century, stands on a steep slope above Taormina from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view. It was built taking advantage of the cave conformation existing there, so much so that part of its ceiling is made up of live rock. Legend has it that during a storm a shepherd boy to take shelter with his flock entered a cave and saw a lady with a child in her arms. , frightened, he fled, leaving the sheep. Returning to the point where he had seen the vision he noticed a crack in the rock inside which you could see a painting depicting the scene. From the apparition of the Madonna to the shepherd, the small cave became a place of pilgrimage for many faithful who still today, on the third Sunday of September, go to the church to celebrate the Madonna della Rocca.
