★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta a Faltognano e’ citata per la prima volta nel 1276, ma l’edifico che vediamo ora e’ frutto di un radicale intervento di ricostruzione avvenuto nel 1895. In questo anno fu ricostruita in stile neo rinascimentale a croce latina, con navata unica e copertura a volte. E’ caratterizzata da un basso campanile e da un portico antistante la facciata; si trova su un ampio terrazzo erboso e la fronteggia un leccio maestoso. Il Leccio di Faltognano’ e’ censito fra le piante Monumentali della Toscana: ha una circonferenza di metri 5,20, un’altezza di 13,00 metri e una circonferenza della chioma di 23,00 metri, mentre l’eta’ e’ superiore ai 200 anni.
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Faltognano is mentioned for the first time in 1276, but the building we see now is the result of a radical reconstruction that took place in 1895. In this year it was rebuilt in a neo-Renaissance style with a Latin cross , with a single nave and vaulted roof. It is characterized by a low bell tower and a portico in front of the facade; it is located on a large grassy terrace and is faced by a majestic holm oak. The Leccio di Faltognano is registered among the Monumental plants of Tuscany: it has a circumference of 5.20 meters, a height of 13.00 meters and a crown circumference of 23.00 meters, while the age is over 200 years old.
