β β β β β The star in this church is the Caravaggio over the high altar. "The burial of St Lucy". Ignore reviews, it is quite easy to see the masterpiece.
The church is worth seeing in it's own right, whilst relatively bare compared to other baroque churches.
It's not as grand as the Duomo, and is a little neglected, but frankly that's part of it's charm. It has beautiful blue and white floor tiles.
Sadly groups go through just to see the Caravaggio, guides talking loudly, disgraceful.
The adjacent nun's parlour is not to be missed, beautiful tiles.
No photos allowed, I didn't realise until I was told off, mia culpa.

β β β β β The church is very famous for the Caravaggio painting 'seppellimento di santa lucia' (five stars for this). When we visited (h 14 9/2020), the church was closed (zero star for this) for extraordinary works... :-(

β β β β β Very nice stop on the square with the painted ceilings, views of the square, and a glass of sparkling at the end enjoyed on the terrace. Recommended when in Ortigia.

β β β β β Ugly and utterly kitch (plastic chairs, awkward chandeliers) interior despite fabulous ceramic floor and a poorly kept Caravaggio masterpiece! It should be taken away from this church if they have no idea how to maintain and display it

β β β β β It does NOT contain the Caravaggio painting of The Burial of St Lucy'. This was moved to it's original site in the church of S. Lucia al Sepolchre a couple of years ago. There you can also visit the extensive catacombs which date from the same period (3rd century AD).

β β β β β A small but beautiful little church. Free access, and unlike in the cathedral you can go in with shorts and sleeves. Don't try to take pictures inside though, there is a very strict policy here and the guards will shout through a microphone if you do.

β β β β β A nice church with a very impressive Caravaggio painting that is the main reason to visit here. The picture is well lit and his use of light and shadows can be appreciated even though one cannot approach very close nor take photos. No charge for entry!
