In a side street between Palazzo Bellomo and the eastern sea of Syracuse is this church that deserves to be visited.

Davvero suggestiva.
Dedicated to San Martino Vescovo, it is one of the first churches of Syracuse, an early Christian basilica built in the 6th century. A.D. and remodeled in the fourteenth century. Really suggestive.

It is one of Ortigia's hidden gems, a few steps from Piazza Duomo and close to the Bellomo Gallery. A fine pointed portal characterizes the elevation. Currently, unfortunately, the church is difficult to visit, only on Sunday, close to the times of the masses.

The church of San Martino is one of the oldest churches in Syracuse, which is no small feat. The apse and columns can be dated to the 6th century AD, but the façade, with its rose window and its portal, dates from approximately 1300. The vicissitudes of history and geology have forced it to mutate during different renovations. The floor plan is that of a basilica with a transept.

It is the oldest church in the city, dating back to the 12th century and its Romanesque style is surprising for its simplicity and beauty.
It is absolutely worth a visit, if open, and admire its 3-nave architecture and wooden vault.
Also noteworthy are the apsidal paintings.
