La croce che campeggia sulla facciata di ingresso é stata ricavata togliendo mattoni, in questo caso togliendo hanno arricchito il luogo. Attualmente è a navata unica, ma in origine aveva anche una seconda navata di cui si conserva solamente l'abside (ben visibile dalla srtada sottostante). Murata nella parete sinistra conserva la lapide di Leodgar vescovo di Luni, grande evangelizzatore che volle essere sepolto nel luogo dove spezzò gli idoli pagani. Prima si trovava nella pieve di Sorano. La torre campanaria aveva all'inizio una funzione difensiva, nel luogo si trovava infatti un castello che controllava la via francigena. All'interno la lapide di Leodegar, unico documento longobardo. Intorno vedete i ruderi delle mura medievali e le fondamenta del castello bizantino.
