Decorazioni dorate e stucchi arricchiscono una struttura importante con una bella cupola. The cathedral church of Pontremoli is a spectacular example of an eighteenth-century church. Ho trovato curioso vedere il campanile costruito di fronte alla cattedrale e non facente parte integrante di essa come si presenta di solito nelle cattedrali e nelle chiese. Visita consigliata. Very very impressive. Definitely worth visiting. When you find yourself sitting inside it, time seems to go backwards. I found it curious to see the bell tower built in front of the cathedral and not an integral part of it as it usually appears in cathedrals and churches. Recommended visit.

Conosciuta semplicemente come “Duomo” a Pontremoli è una bellissima chiesa in stile barocco. Da non perdere le grandi tele situate nel transetto e la cappella del Santissimo Sacramento in stile neoclassico. Messe domenicali alle ore 10.00 e 12.00. The church of Santa Maria Assunta was the Pontremoli cathedral until 1988 when the dioceses of Massa Carrara and Pontremoli merged to create the diocese of Massa Carrara and Pontremoli. Known simply as "Duomo" in Pontremoli, it is a beautiful baroque church. Do not miss the large canvases located in the transept and the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in neoclassical style. In stile barocco, presenta un’ unica vasta navata con cappelle laterali, un breve transetto ed una cupola altissima e luminosa all'incrocio dei bracci. La facciata, in stile neo-rinascimentale è recente e fu costruita nel 1881. Gli stucchi situati all’interno sono stati realizzati tra Settecento e Ottocento. Ottocentesca è anche la Cappella neoclassica del Santissimo Sacramento. L’arredo pittorico della chiesa è settecentesco. Avendo tempo a disposizione, merita una visita.
