A	Andrea Danzo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Riedificata nell'anno 1011 dopo la distruzione avvenuta intorno all'846 ad opera dei Saraceni, fu sede della parrocchia dei SS. Cosma e Damiano per diversi secoli. Dopo essere stata rimaneggiata più volte nel corso del tempo, assunse definitivamente la conformazione tardo-barocca. Nel novembre 1943 fu gravemente danneggiata dai bombardamenti bellici e successivamente ricostruita in dimensioni ridotte. Al suo interno ospita un pregevole fonte battesimale in pietra del 1591. S	Stefano Manzo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano si affaccia in via Indipendenza nel Borgo di Gaeta (vedere la NOTA). Le prime tracce di questa chiesa, si hanno già nel X secolo, mentre quello che possiamo vedere oggi è una ricostruzione degli anni 50, dopo i danni subiti nella seconda guerra mondiale. La facciata è molto semplice, spicca il maestoso portale, coronato da un frontone spezzato, dove al centro è presente un ovale, contente un dipinto. Di rilievo è il campanile posto sulla destra del XIX secolo. NOTA Il Borgo di Gaeta (ex comune di Elena) Il Borgo si sviluppò sin dai tempi antichi fuori dalle mura fortificate della città di Gaeta ed era abitato prevalentemente da pescatori e contadini, famosi anche per le olive di Gaeta. Nel 1897 diventò comune autonomo chiamandosi Comune di Elena (in onore della principessa Elena), ma nel 1927 fu deciso di nuovo di unirlo con il comune di Gaeta, prendendo entrambi quest’ultimo nome, quindi attualmente è un quartiere di Gaeta. Il luogo è molto suggestivo e vi sono presenti diversi posti da visitare, fra i quali caratteristiche case, archi, scalinate, diverse chiese e il famoso “mercato del pesce”, non mancano vari negozi particolari. NOTE Il Borgo di Gaeta (former municipality of Elena) The village developed since ancient times outside the fortified walls of the city of Gaeta and was inhabited mainly by fishermen and farmers, also famous for the olives of Gaeta. In 1897 it became an autonomous municipality calling itself the Municipality of Elena (in honor of Princess Elena), but in 1927 it was decided again to unite it with the municipality of Gaeta, both taking this last name. therefore it is currently a district of Gaeta. The place is very suggestive and there are several places to visit, including characteristic houses, arches, stairways, various churches and the famous "fish market", there are also several special shops.
