Purtroppo come molte cose belle in Italia sono completamente abbandonate e comunque mal gestite dagli stessi cittadini. Forse con la nuova pro loco qualcosa cambierà... Nell'879 fu costruita una vera fortezza adibita ad abitazione, che negli anni a seguire, sotto il dominio dei Normanni e degli Svevi, assunse l'aspetto di un castello.La struttura era costituita da quattro torri di avvistamento nei quattro punti cardini, e rappresentavano un sicuro baluardo contro ogni tipo di tentativo di aggressione nemica. Ed in caso di assalto al castello, l'utimo rifugio sicuro restava la torre, la quale con i suoi 32 metri di altezza ed un diametro di circa 10 metri, era munita di un fossato e di conseguenza inaccessibile. La torre aveva due accessi con ponti levatoio, era costituita da tre sale circolari sovrastanti. Quella inferiore apparentemente non ha accessi, e doveva sicuramente servire come deposito di acqua. La sala intermedia, ha solo ferritoie. Mentre la parte superiore e costituita da due piani circolari concentri. Quello centrale è più basso di quello periferico che presenta la merlatura, ed e collegato al centrale con due scale.
