Probabilmente era un castello-ricetto, adibito alla protezione degli abitanti del borgo. Più volte semidistrutto durante i conflitti medioevali, nel quattrocento divenne proprietà della potente famiglia Beccaria. Venne acquistato nel 1573 dalla nobile famiglia Litta che lo modificò trasformandolo in parte in residenza nobiliare. Oggi ospita nel suo interno un ristorante, il Museo Civico Archeologico, la Scuola civica di musica, una sede della Croce Azzurra ed un piccolo giardino pubblico apertosi cittadini. L 'origin of the castle is very old, probably dates back around to "a thousand years. It was probably a castle-shelter, used for the protection of the village inhabitants. Several times partially destroyed during medieval conflicts, the four became the property of the powerful Beccaria family. It was purchased in 1573 by the noble Litta family who modified it, partly transforming it into a noble residence. Today it houses in its interior a restaurant, the Archaeological Museum, the Municipal School of Music, a branch of the Blue Cross and a small public park that opened citizens.

Porta il nome Litta poiché nel 1573 il marchese Litta Agostino acquistò, per 60.400 lire, il feudo di Gambolò. Seppure plasmato nel Quattrocento dalla famiglia Beccaria, deve molti dei suoi caratteri ai rimaneggiamenti Cinque-Seicenteschi operati dai Litta. È enorme. La sua superficie misura circa 14.600 m²: basti pensare che oggi al suo interno trovano spazio un parcheggio, un parchetto, un bar, un ristorante, un museo archeologico e un grande prato ancora non sfruttato. Il modo migliore per farsi un'idea della sua antica imponenza è percorrerne il perimetro esterno, seguendo le vie nelle quali un tempo si trovava il fossato, così da poter ammirare le torri e quel che resta delle mura difensive. Successivamente accedere all'interno tramite l'ingresso seicentesco situato ad est. Sebbene alcune parti risultino piuttosto male in arnese, fa comunque piacere constatare che tuttora molto del vecchio maniero venga sfruttato e non lasciato andare in rovina, destino che tocca a troppi altri monumenti italiani. The castle is of Visconti / Sforza origin: the quadrangular plan is unmistakable. It bears the name Litta since in 1573 the Marquis Litta Agostino bought the fiefdom of Gambolò for 60,400 lire. Although shaped in the fifteenth century by the Beccaria family, it owes many of its characters to the sixteenth-seventeenth-century alterations made by the Littas. It's huge. Its surface measures approximately 14,600 m²: just think that today inside there is space for a parking lot, a small park, a bar, a restaurant, an archaeological museum and a large lawn that is not yet used. The best way to get an idea of its ancient grandeur is to walk along its external perimeter, following the streets where the moat once stood, so as to be able to admire the towers and what remains of the defensive walls. Then enter inside through the seventeenth-century entrance located to the east. Although some parts are rather poorly made, it is still pleasing to see that much of the old manor is still being exploited and not left to ruin, a fate that affects too many other Italian monuments.
U	Ugo Modanese on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In questo castello medioevale c'è un ottimo ristorante, mio nipote ha fatto qui il suo pranzo di nozze ed ho potuto saggiarne la qualità. Il castello è uno dei più grandi della Lomellina ma è poco conosciuto e meno valorizzato. All'interno si può trovare un piccolo parco, una zona ristoro con bocciodromo, la sede della polizia municipale, il ristorante sopracitato, una scuola di musica e un ampio parcheggio. Nonostante una certa trascuratezza si può ancora apprezzare il portale di accesso al castello, i torrioni che delimitano il quadrato della costruzione con le mura di difesa e la residenza nobiliare che appartenne ai signori Litta. Se siete in zona merita una visita. In this medieval castle there is an excellent restaurant, my nephew had his wedding lunch here and I was able to test its quality. The castle is one of the largest in Lomellina but is little known and less valued. Inside you can find a small park, a refreshment area with a bowling green, the municipal police headquarters, the aforementioned restaurant, a music school and a large parking lot. Despite a certain neglect, one can still appreciate the access portal to the castle, the towers that delimit the square of the building with the defense walls and the noble residence that belonged to the Litta lords. If you are in the area it is worth a visit.
