Nel tempo ha subito modifiche ma conserva il suo stato e il suo fascino. Ha una struttura a pianta pentagonale con tre torrette circolari. L'ingresso è composto da torrione a base quadrangolare, con merli piatti. Al castello si arriva da piazza Brusaca. Le prime testimonianze di un castello anteriore all’attuale nella zona di San Terenzo ci vengono fornite indirettamente da alcuni documenti della famiglia Federici di Sestri Levante: qui viene menzionato un tale Rossi come castellano del paese nel 1360. It cannot boast an ancient history; it seems it was built in the 1400s, by countrymen 'with no artillery, stairs, munitions, or guards' against the raids by the Saracen pirates, the same Turks that gave the name to the grotto that opens up into the rocky promontory where the castle stands.
