★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Anche Gargallo ebbe un castello la cui costruzione si fa risalire alla prima metà del XII secolo. Era difeso da una muraglia completa di fossato e comprendeva una o più torri ed una piccola chiesa "in castrum" dedicata già a San Pietro. Fu semidistrutto nel 1311 (insieme al castello di Soriso) durante lo scontro tra famiglie guelfe e ghibelline novaresi.
Fu però riedificato nel 1333 quando Gargallo passò ai Visconti, duchi di Milano e da questi ultimi ceduto alla famiglia Da Casate che resse il feudo fino al 1494.
Cadde probabilmente in disuso e ciò che restava fu ulteriormente danneggiato nel 1636 dalle truppe francesi in guerra contro la Spagna.
Del castello rimane però una delle torri, riconvertita in torre campanaria quando - nei primi anni del 1700 - la nuova parrocchiale di San Pietro fu ingrandita, utilizzando anche le macerie provenienti dal castello.
Gargallo also had a castle whose construction dates back to the first half of the 12th century. It was defended by a wall complete with a moat and included one or more towers and a small church "in castrum" already dedicated to St. Peter. It was partially destroyed in 1311 (together with the Soriso castle) during the clash between Guelph and Ghibelline Novara families.
However, it was rebuilt in 1333 when Gargallo passed to the Visconti, dukes of Milan and from the latter ceded to the Da Casate family who ruled the feud until 1494.
It probably fell into disuse and what remained was further damaged in 1636 by French troops at war with Spain.
However, one of the towers remains of the castle, converted into a bell tower when - in the early 1700s - the new parish church of San Pietro was enlarged, also using the rubble from the castle.
