How many thousands of people lived that way and were relocated in the 1950s.
What was considered to be poor for Matera today is its wealth.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Interesting in the fact you get to see how people lived ages ago. However, they packed and large amount of stuff within and it gets pretty packed inside. €3 per person and children were free.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went there after this place was highly recommend by our host and reading the reviews on Google maps. It was a disappointment despite the fact that it was educational. They play prerecorded audio and there's someone pointing with a laser pen towards the object they are describing on the recording. This is lazy at best. There's also a tip plate on the table for the staff, which I found distasteful given the little effort they put

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very interesting to see how did they used to live not long time ago. The ladies working in the museum are very friendly and helpful, probably the nicest we found in the whole trip. You need to enter at a given time and you can hear an explanation/ audio guide on your mobile.
