β β β β β We rented bikes for a day and a half in Florence because our feet hurt from walking all over Italy and we wanted to get out and explore more of the countryside around Florence we had an awesome time in the bike and were surprised the lack of cars and the area available for biking. We highly recommend renting bikes on Florence. This place was super cheap and only β¬12 for 24 hours rental per bike. However like The other reviews mentioned, the bikes were a poor quality and my partners bike was broken with his seat constantly coming down there was no ability to switch gears and he had issues with the chain as well. When we got back we asked for a discount because his bike was so poor. The lady was very rude and not apologetic at all. She told us we should've come back and exchanged the bike. We told her we are across the city and did not have the ability to do that and they also were not open. She was very rude and very short and made no apology.. There are other places that rent bikes in Florence and maybe a bit more expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. Also I asked the bike shop owner if he had clean the seats and he said yes I told him I asked him if he had any rubbing alcohol because I wanted to clean it as well he brought me a paper towel with water on it. Apparently they do not clean your bike seat so it is imperative to get hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol to make sure they are clean so that you do not get a disease or infection.

β β β β β This is a review more about renting a scooter in Florence. My small review about Alinari can be found below.
I had to forfeit my 24hr rental after realizing I was not comfortable.
Do not rent a scooter in Florence unless you are a daily scooter driver and know where you are going (or don't care where you are going). I thought I was more than prepared -- I have my motorcycle license in the US, but a scooter is not my daily driver. I am comfortable, yet it's not second nature to me. I am a strong map reader and have a good sense of direction. I can't recommend enough that you are a scooter pro, in order to focus all your energy and concentration on navigating and traffic.
Before leaving town, I rode around the shop in a ~2-block radius a couple of times to ensure there were no issues. In that time, I felt overwhelmed with the traffic and the one lane roads; I had to pull to the side of the road multiple times to consult my location. I experienced aggressive drivers around me: other scooters speeding around me and buses very close behind me. After less than 30min, I determined that I could not comfortably, or enjoyably, ride a scooter out of Florence. I know it sounds over- exaggerated, but it's easy to lose your bearings, when you're trying to read small street signs, ZTL/road limitation signs, and watch drivers around you. Google navigation by car I did not find to be an accurate representation of street limitations in the city center.
Even if you are a pro, I recommend renting for a 1hr test drive before committing to a longer rental period.
If I knew exactly where I was going (or had navigation), and traffic was lighter (perhaps in the morning), I think I would have been totally fine. Or, I would consider doing a guided tour by scooter.
My Alinari review - The shop keeper was kind a spoke English well. Prices are very reasonable. Important: Ensure you take numerous photos before your rental, so you are not deducted for any defects after your rental that you cannot prove. Take a close up of all parts of the entire scooter. Estimate ~30 images per vehicle.

β β β β β I cycle a great deal in the UK but my hubby & I just wanted two wheels to pootle around Florence on today as it was too hot to walk everywhere. We were made to feel very welcome & within just a few minutes left the shop on two perfectly serviceable bikes. They were a bit heavy, single speed & were of the 'sit up & beg' variety (not what I was used to). Having said that they were perfect for dealing with the cobbled streets & being able to take in the sights as you go along! Great value at β¬7 each for 5 hours. Loved it. If you want to hire you'll need your passport.

β β β β β Honestly people be aware of this place. We hired 2 scooters for a days hire. We returned them with in 30 minutes due to changed circumstances. They refused to refund a portion of the money or charge us something reasonable like an hour or 2 hours rental. They still charged us for the whole day. Also if you are a tourist they hang onto your passport and they keep it unsecured in the top drawer. Be aware not safe at all.

β β β β β Not bad, owner's English was soso, but his scooter was good and prices are cheap. Taped my phone to the scooter so I wouldn't get lost, works like a charm :)
