★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La leggenda narra che attorno alla prima cappella dedicata al santo martire sia stata, nei secoli successivi , costruita la chiesa - fortezza per proteggerla dagli attacchi dei pirati barbareschi e per ospitare in sicurezza tutti quei fedeli giunti da lontano.
La Torre è stata costruita intorno al 1.600, cioè subito dopo le altre torri di guardia che si trovano lungo la costa, costruite su progetto dell'architetto fiorentino Camilliani, incaricato dal viceré Colonna di pianificare le difese costiere dell'isola contro i corsari.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il santuario è bello, all'interno scendendo qualche scalino si trova un altare piccolo con la preghiera a San Vito in una piccola grotta. Consiglio di visitare anche il giardino
The sanctuary is beautiful, inside going down a few steps there is a small altar with the prayer to San Vito in a small cave. I also recommend visiting the garden

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Capo Egitarso mutó il nome in San Vito lo Capo fin dai tempi antichi per la testimonianza del giovane santo che qui si rifugio dopo la persecuzione di Mazara sua città natale. Il santuario del V' secolo é un luogo di preghiera. Nel 2002 é stata scoperta la fonte battesimale.
Capo Egitarso changed its name to San Vito lo Capo from ancient times for the testimony of the young saint who took refuge here after the persecution of Mazara his hometown. The 5th century sanctuary is a place of prayer. In 2002 the baptismal font was discovered.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ O santuário é uma autêntica fortaleza medieval, mas tem um interior barroco de grande riqueza decorativa. Na cripta fica o suposto túmulo de San Vito. O santuário fica no centro histórico, bem perto da magnífica praia.
The sanctuary is an authentic medieval fortress, but has a baroque interior of great decorative wealth. In the crypt is the supposed tomb of San Vito. The sanctuary is in the historic center, very close to the magnificent beach.
