Zona archeologica molto bella ed interessante con numerose tombe etrusche ed un interessante emiciclo dedicato a cerimoniali. La tomba della Quadriga Infernale, così detta, é visitabile su prenotazione. Una copia del famoso dipinto la si può vedere presso il museo archeologico di Sarteano, tra l'altro, anch'esso meritevole di visita e con orari piú accessibili. Andateci. Dal punto di vista artistico, questa tomba etrusca, scoperta nel 2003, è davvero un unicum nel sue genere per le sue pitture parietali raffinate rappresentanti creature dell'oltretomba che accompagnano il defunto nel suo ultimo viaggio. Figurano un serpente a tre teste che ricorda i manga giapponesi e Caronte, il traghettatore infernale, con zanna, sguardo cupo e chioma fulva che guida una quadriga trainata da due leoni e da due grifoni. Le due figure maschili a banchetto sono state invece variamente interpretate: o si tratta di due parenti, di cui il più anziano accoglie nell' aldilà il giovane defunto, oppure potrebbero essere due amanti che si ritrovano dopo la morte. Consiglio la visita prima di andare al museo in paese, ove è riprodotta una copia degli affreschi. Moving and exciting ... not just the "hug" between the two presumably family members. Quasi tutte le tombe sono visitabili, ma meglio portarsi un torcia! Peccato non poter vedere la tomba della quadriglia infernale che al momento è in fase di restauro.
