La leggenda vuole che il santo stesse porgendo l'ostia consacrata ai cittadini quando passò di li un contadino in compagnia di una mula. Il contadino proprio non ne voleva sapere di ricevere l'ostia, la mula invece si sedette, come prostrandosi, di fronte alla mano del santo.
