★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Carlo Goldoni theater is the oldest theater in Venice still existing today, and the fourth oldest in the city, after the Michiel Theater, the Tron Theater and the San Moisè Theater. It was built by the Vendramin family in 1622, from which it took its name. The inauguration of the theater, also known as San Salvador and San Luca, took place in the autumn of that year, with a show by the "Gli Accesi" Company. For the first 30 years only comedy shows were staged. In 1653, then, a terrible fire destroyed it. After being rebuilt, and having gone through various vicissitudes, including numerous changes of ownership, in the mid-18th century, Antonio and Francesco Vendramin succeeded in hiring Carlo Goldoni, offering him a rich engagement, as well as allowing him to deal directly with the owner, to whom he delivered his plays, which were paid to him immediately, even before being read. Among the various directors of the modern era, we remember the unforgettable and memorable Giorgio Gaber. Today it is home to the Teatro Stabile del Veneto "Carlo Goldoni", directed by Alessandro Gassman. Many famous actresses and actors have acted in this theater, and it is the same today. The theater is well maintained, everything is neat and the atmosphere is wonderful. This modern theater is located near the Rialto Bridge in the historic center of Venice, in the Calle del Teatro o de la Commedia.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A must visit for anyone interested in commedia dell'arte or even theater in general. You can get cheaper tickets if you buy them in the afternoon of the day of the show. They're also very child friendly and offer excellent price deals for kids.
