Sporting Hotel

Comfortable and relaxing hotel. Just a 10 minute walk from the old town of Gubbio. Good food, breakfast and dinner. Friendly staff who are eager to help.

If you are staying in Relais Il Castello in Monte Castillo di Vibio and they suggest you come here, don't! The beds and pillows are the same but there is no view. The photo I posted is the view from the window, all windows have similar view. Looks nothing like the photos online. This place is in a truck stop in an industrial estate opposite a technical school. No pool - the pool is a public pool you have to pay to get into. Carpets are filthy I could go on but I'm just disgusted. And it smelled when we were there.

Gloomy airless room with no air-conditioning, below average breakfast, and very, very noisy. Sounded like a washing machine running for hours above our room. I could go on, the list is quite long.

My wife and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at The Sporting hotel in Gubbio. We were a little sceptical about how the hotel would be based on some of the reviews we had seen before we departed. I would like to make it very clear that we feel the negative reviews are very unfair!! It is true to say the hotel is a little dated and the new management are aware of this and have plans to make improvements. However, there are a number of delights to this hotel. Firstly its location, situated next door to a very pleasant commune swimming pool and a 13 minute drive from the beautiful Agriturismo Faro Rosso swimming pool which is well worth a visit with its beautiful views. The hotel is a short walk from Gubbio centre which is very special. There are a number of locations which can be driven to easily from The Sporting hotel ranging from 45 minutes away to 2 hours. The hotel has good Wifi, although it is dated the hotel is very clean, showers are lovely and powerful with room service every day. But the true stars of this hotel are its staff. Every member of staff we encountered were helpful, friendly and made us feel very welcome during our stay. This ranged from the hotel manager to the reception staff, waitress and cook. I must make special thanks to Artemis who works on reception, she was very informative about the hotel and the local area. A very friendly lady who offered us tea making facilities in our room and really made a special effort to make sure we had everything we needed. Graziella the cook, thank you for the delicious meals you provided for us, we enjoyed everything you cooked for us and we looked forward to each and every meal (my wife is half Italian and she understands Italian food well) we definitely give you 5* for your food. Ambra the waitress was very attentive to us and looked after us extremely well, she always had a smile on her face and made us feel very welcome. Lastly, Francesco (portiere) who works the night shift on reception, he was always very friendly and ensured we had something eat and a coffee before we departed at 5am in the morning. The staff work every hard and they are an asset to the hotel. We would highly recommend the hotel and would happily stay there again.

The hotel is situated not far from the town. It is surrounded by beautiful green mountains. There are quaint and affordable shops in the medival towns and in the surrounding areas. The staff were very helpful and polite.Reception staff also very helpful...Thank you Giovanni!! The free cooking class was a bonus to our stay. The staff Luca and Cicilia were very helpful and capable. Luca was brilliant with his translations and Cicilia an excellent teacher/ cook! The hotel was clean & welcoming. There was a free bottle of wine on arrival at dinner time.Clean & tidy environment. The food was of local cuisine, which was very tasty and fresh! A free electric car ride around the medieval city & a free wine tasting event was enclosed in our deal..excellent idea!!!! The local transport system is affordable. One can get to Assisi & Perugia very easily. However, a very long drive. The countryside drive is breathtakingly beautiful. I would rate the hotel between 3/4. There is no pool,but the hotel can arrange access to a pool for you. There is seating outside the hotel to sunbathe. Overall excellent staff! It helps to speak the language?

Good base to see the town of Gubbio (enjoyed the cable car and views) and surrounding areas. This hotel is comfortable (yes perhaps a little dated but adequate), with a very attentive and friendly staff team. Great wifi. We enjoyed our time.

We have just spent a week at this hotel. Whilst the rooms are adequate the staff are superb; so friendly, welcoming and always a smile. Nothing has been too much trouble for them and have catered for us well - special thanks to MARA and GIANLUCA. The breakfast was really good and we even get one at 5:00 in the morning when we leave . We did a cookery class which was good fun and we met some lovely people who did the course with us. We then ate what we cooked for lunch. The chef was a good teacher and not too critical! A good base for what is a beautiful region.
