At Rome Fiumicino airport: bad and unfriendly service. Staff doesn't care about customers. Got a car that smelled like an ashtray and with a gas tank that was only 3/4 full. They don't check their cars before they give it out. They're only interested whether you damaged it or not. Avoid.

STAY AWAY from these con artists I hired a car in August this year. It broke down in the middle of nowhere, I was given next to no help from them. Fortunately the recovery company were very helpful and pointed me in the direction of a local cafe whilst I waited with my two young children and wife. After 2 hours of trying to get help from SBC,they told me to get a taxi to the nearest SBC, which was 150 euro taxi journey. So after another hour waiting for the taxi, a 2 hour taxi ride and lots of unhelpful customer service we finally picked up another old banger, driving the 2 hour journey back to where we started from!!! Its now November, I still haven't received a penny back, and my credit card company are dealing with a fraudulent transaction to Sicily By Car of Β£70. My advice, pay a little extra, these guys are con artists.

Worst company ever. I booked the car from economycarrental and paid 97€ booking fee online. When I can to sicilybycar counter, they refuse to give car and didn't even got the prepaid amount back. Staff was extremely rude and racist. She was arrogant and tore the contract paper in front of me by showing attitude. They just know how to fool the customers. NEVER BOOK FROM HERE I wish I could give NEGATIVE rating

If I could give negative stars for this company, I would. If the majority of the Internet comments I have read about them are true, then they are significantly worse than unprofessional. We booked a car and noticed on the amount debited from our credit card, after returning the car, that they had not deducted the deposit already paid. We have been trying for months to get a refund. When we were finally able to speak to someone on the phone, we were told to use email. We have sent repeated emails to the finance department, the customer service department and the complaints department - NO RESPONSE. The evidence we provided clearly shows their error of not taking into account the deposit already paid.

Booked a rental car online on Economy Booking website, we selected Sicily by Car offer and prepaid €55 and had €11 left to pay on arrival. On arrival, instead of €11, we were asked to pay €133. Total amount of the car rental for the 5 days amounted to €189 instead of the €67 contractually agreed so 2.5 times more money than the contractual amount. Total rip off, we are going to see if Police can intervene to stop these professional scammers.

A shocking experience. I’ll put out there everything that went wrong and how this company negotiates. Hopefully, you will send your business elsewhere. We booked a car two months ahead of time to pick-up in Rome and drop off 12 days later in Venice. We still waited 2.5 hours in Rome to get the car. Selling customers additional insurance is part of the wait here and you can expect a full on sales pitch about why you need to pay them additional money over the initial quote. (Technically they are selling Collision Damage Waiver and Roadside Assistance). So the sales pitch is you could be up for 3000 Euros in damages (total excess) if you don’t buy the additional CDW insurance. The close is that they will block your credit card with an outlandish amount if you don’t buy the insurance. For our 12 day rental of an SUV, they wanted to block 1200 Euros over the agreed rental price of 600 Euro. On return of the car, the block is then removed and you pay the final bill. I didn’t want to have 1800 Euros blocked on my CC and then 2400 Euros of Credit Limit tied up after the car was returned, but the block not yet removed. So I ended up buying the insurance. It started off at 350 Euros for 12 days, but when I refused, they ended up taking off the Roadside Assistance and the price came down to 200 Euros. All up, the rental would be 800. 600 for the car, 200 for insurance. I don’t really believe in paying 6% of the total liability for 12 days so I though I got a bad deal, but I certainly didn’t want to let them tie up 2400 Euro of Credit Limit, so accepted it. On the cars return, they ended up charging us for a late return in some details that were ambiguously noted. Expected arrival time is written on the contract, despite being absent in our initial quote. This has litigious implications (see page 7) and I ended up having to pay another 60 Euros more. They have all your details, Signatures and CC #s so I wasn’t given a choice about paying it. We were given a smaller car with smaller boot space than we initially booked. We paid 863E versus our initial quote of 603Euro. To top it off, when we did get a flat, there was no spare in the boot. My advice on this company: be prepared to be sold hard on insurance, have an extra 2.5K Euro of Credit Limit that you can have tied up over your holiday. Read the fine print on return times. There are likely numerous other traps, read and RE-read the fine print.

They charged me for refueling even when I returned full tank. When I've rented the car, I've noticed that the gas indicator doesn't show a full tank. I immediately told that to the clerk, and she told me, they are aware of it and it's a faulty indicator. She also pointed to the check out document, where the information is mentioned. I've took a car from Rome airport to the city and back to the airport (40km together). On the day of car return, I've filled the gas tank for 4.25eur (which corresponds to the distance I've traveled and type of car I had). The fact that Sicilybycar was able to fill an already full gas tank with another gas worth 6.3 eur is either a miracle or a pure scam. Amount is small and other services were good, but it's an obvious intention to cheat people and for that they deserve even less than 1 star.

Customers beware. This is the worst car rental service in all Italy. We made a booking through booking.com, where my husband's ID was duly identified. Nowhere in the voucher said we needed to bring the physical passport to get the car out, for security reasons we only travel with our ID card and a digital picture of our passport. Turns out, these scammers do not accept the drivers license as an identity card, even though it is a form of identity card in the UK. Check out the other reviews, they'll corroborate that this is the worst car rental in Italy. Go with someone more trustworthy like Europcar or any of the other household names.
