★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Interessante, soprattutto per gli appassionati del romanico e delle chiese piu'antiche ancora in piedi a Siena.
Nonostante il rifacimento di fine'500 dell'edificio, in facciata e'ancora visibile il portale originario romanico di XII secolo e il paramento a blocchi squadrati tufacei.
Purtroppo non ho trovato aperto quando sono andata a vederla, ma pare che all'interno siano ancora presenti alcuni capitelli romanici.
In passato l'edificio e'stato l'oratorio della Contrada della Pantera, che ha a tutt'oggi i suoi locali a due passi.
Inoltre, dal piazzale della chiesa(ma anche dalle aree aperte del circolo"della Contrada) e'visibile il duomo da una delle sue tante prospettive!
In ogni caso quest'area di Siena, apparente tranquilla, riveste una grande importanza storica:secondo tradizioni antiquarie, la chiesa sarebbe stata fondata al di sopra del tempio romano del dio Quirino ed in ogni caso al di sotto della chiesa sono stati recuperati ritrovamenti della Siena romana, più'evanescente di quella successiva.
In ogni caso, l'area collinare di Castelvecchio(vie San Quirico, Pendola, Castelvecchio, San Pietro) di cui fa parte anche questa chiesa, e'una delle zone piu'antiche della citta', da epoca etrusca passando ai romani, fino ai longobardi.
 Interesting, especially for fans of the Romanesque and the oldest churches still standing in Siena.
Despite the late 16th century refurbishment of the building, the original 12th century Romanesque portal and the tufaceous block facing are still visible on the facade.
Unfortunately I did not find it open when I went to see it, but it seems that some Romanesque capitals are still present inside.
In the past the building was the oratory of the Contrada della Pantera, which still has its premises within walking distance.
Moreover, from the church square (but also from the open areas of the Contrada circle) the cathedral is visible from one of its many perspectives!
In any case, this seemingly quiet area of Siena is of great historical importance: according to antiquarian traditions, the church was founded above the Roman temple of the god Quirinus and in any case, below the church finds of the Roman Siena, more evanescent than the next.
In any case, the hilly area of Castelvecchio (via San Quirico, Pendola, Castelvecchio, San Pietro) of which this church is also part, is one of the most ancient areas of the city, from the Etruscan era through to the Romans, up to to the Lombards.
