★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We arrived there after checking the opening times on the official website and after driving 1h from where our accomodation was. We struggled to park as there is NO parking in the area and we had a massive SUV (very bad idea in Italy)....after we struggled for 15 mins to find a place we went to the monastery and entered. 30 seconds later a very aggressive and rude man started to shout at us in Italian and literally threw us out with no explanation.
We stopped at the restaurant nearby for a coffee and the lovely ladies explained the monastery is closed for an hour or two for lunch. All in all a terrible expereince, waste of money and time and I would not recommend the place as it is nothing to see or do...besides being bullied that is.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just love this place. So unique and meaningful for Tuscany. Our Lady of Montenero is the patronness of the whole region. The Shrine (full of ex votos of stunning miracles attributed to her intercession) looks above the whole city of Livorno, the shore and even the islands, if the day is clear enough. A must for whoever visits this part of Tuscany!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A magical, special place. Went to mass - it was packed with a million kids, wonderfully serene. Afterwards, a beautiful courtyard with shops offering religious merchandise, and a gallery of gratitude notes from those who prayed here. Special reverence towards St John Paul II. Next doir: amazing restaurant "Montallegro" with wonderful, authentic food and amazing views and a lush garden.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the stops when doing the open top bus tour. The price includes a ticket for the furnicular - time it right to get the next bus back, although when we were there he did wait for any latecomers.
Well worth a stop for the views and wander round. Maybe just enough time for a coffee!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My military family lived in Livorno for several years and we frequently frequented this beautiful Sanctuary of the ‘Madonna di Montenero’ while we were all very young . As Catholics, My brother and I made our 1STHoly Communion there. It is a miraculous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces. So unbelievable, so unforgettable, so NEEDED in these times of turmoil. It is up on a mountain overlooking the beautiful Naval Port of the ancient City of Livorno. ?????
