Molto interessante è il vicino battistero, con galleria, capitelli scolpitie decora,ioni in cotto che ci è stato aperto da un gentile signore, avvisato dal parroco a cui avevamo telefonato. The Lombard Romanesque church has been remodeled inside. The nearby baptistery is very interesting, with its gallery, sculpted capitals and decorations, terracotta ions that was opened to us by a kind gentleman, informed by the parish priest we had phoned.

Stai percorrendo la strada a piedi e vedi una folla silenziosa che sta intonando canti e senti il pianto di un infante provenire dal battistero. Ne vedi l'imponenza e all'ombra dei cipressi prendi ristoro per guardare cosa sta accadendo... Anche oggi puoi vivere questa occasione perché la ex pieve non ha perso la sua funzione con il gusto che solo la storia crea ed in cui il battistero è testimone. Imagine going back in time and finding yourself in the town of Arsago Seprio around the Middle Ages. You are walking down the street and you see a silent crowd singing songs and you hear the cry of an infant coming from the baptistery. You see its grandeur and in the shade of the cypresses take refreshment to watch what is happening ... Even today you can experience this occasion because the former parish church has not lost its function with the taste that only history creates and in which the baptistery is a witness.

Un cartello esplicativo ne descrive le caratteristiche. Peccato fosse chiusa per cui non ho modo di giudicarne l'interno. Di fronte si trova il battistero che immagino segua gli stessi orari di apertura della chiesa From the outside it looks very interesting, located in a large square and with a decent possibility of parking nearby. La chiesa, eretta su di un preesistente luogo di culto del V-VI Secolo, risale al IX Secolo, anche se un radicale rifacimento dell'edificio è stato effettuato fra 1120 e 1130 circa, come concordano gli storici dell'arte, che datano il battistero allo stesso periodo. L'interno di quest'ultimo è spettacolare per la presenza di due piani sorretti da arcate, il secondo dei quali forma un vero e proprio matroneo. Dal canto suo la chiesa, nonostante abbia perso gli affreschi originari e sia stata completamente intonacata, è ancora ricca di suggestioni romaniche e di capitelli antichi. Nel suo insieme il complesso, fra le migliori opere dei maestri comacini, non ha nulla da invidiare alla più famosa Basilica di San Pietro e Paolo di Agliate, dalla struttura molto simile. Bello anche il viale alberato che conduce alla basilica. Piccola curiosità: la cella campanaria fu murata nel XIX Secolo e oggi le campane sono a vista. It is one of the basilica complexes in which Lombard Romanesque art is best expressed. The church, built on a pre-existing place of worship of the 5th-6th century, dates back to the 9th century, even if a radical reconstruction of the building was carried out between 1120 and 1130 approximately, as art historians agree, which date the baptistery at the same time. The interior of the latter is spectacular for the presence of two floors supported by arches, the second of which forms a real women's gallery. For its part, the church, despite having lost the original frescoes and has been completely plastered, is still rich in Romanesque suggestions and ancient capitals. As a whole, the complex, among the best works of the Comacine masters, has nothing to envy to the more famous Basilica of San Pietro and Paolo in Agliate, with its very similar structure. The tree-lined avenue leading to the basilica is also beautiful. Small curiosity: the belfry was walled up in the 19th century and today the bells are visible.
