β β β β β The Sacro Monte is one of the precious treasures of Orta Lake. Secluded on a little hill and protected from the crowd by a tortuous road, the park is populated by 21 chapels, containing fine sculptures illustrating the life of San Francesco d'Assisi. The park is shaded by high trees, you can enjoy a leisure stroll on the many pathways, be amazed by a splendid view over Orta Lake, the San Giulio's Island and the characteristic town of Orta. Do visit in the evening, the setting sun is breathtaking and the night view is also spectacular.
On the practical side: you can reach the Sacromonte from Orta only by foot, the road is paved but a bit steep, not very stroller friendly. It is also possible to reach the park from the main road, by car. The parking is spacious, distributed on more levels. You can bring your own food and eat in the big picnic areas, but there is also a small bar. You will also find public toilets. Do remember this is a place of worship, pleas be quiet and respectful and dress accordingly to the rules.

β β β β β Beautiful and peaceful place with amazing view on the lake. It is possible to arrive with a car and there are free parking places. There is also a small train that brings tourists.

β β β β β We really enjoyed our time here. Wandering in the pleasant woodland from chapel to chapel. There are 20 chapels and it's good to visit in order to follow the story of St Francis. The chapels are a bit gloomy to the eye, but my camera picked out better details.

β β β β β Don't miss it. Very nice walk, great views, and a lot of things to see. It is very pleasant in a sunny day, but even when cloudy it is very nice, different and interesting.
Take the little path at the end that leads to the center to enjoy some good wine and food.

β β β β β We stumbled into this amazing place by accident. The chapels are stunning in their details from St. Francisβs life, and in many of the chapels the sculptures are life sized and feel almost contemporary in their life-like accuracy. Fascinating from a historical and spiritual perspective.

β β β β β This compleanno is incredibly beautiful, quite similar to the Sacro Monte di Varallo but maybe a bit bigger. Theyβre both quite close to each other so you could see both on the same day
