Rome Ciampino Giovan Battista Pastine Airport

To all the haters of this airport, I think you're very unfair. It's clean, and overpriced like every single airport on the planet. If you're organised and have checked in before arriving there will be absolutely no hold up. All the staff is extremely helpful and polite. I would have absolutely no reservations flying into here again.

The airport definitely doesn't have the capacity for all the flights that currently go through it. There's nowhere to sit, at times even nowhere to stand or walk. They either need to expand so people can wait for their flights in adequate conditions, or optimize their flight schedule.

Given the amount of tourists this place manages it should be bigger. Especially during the pandemic travelers were asked to stay outside of the facilities for those arriving 2hours or more prior to their flight. Giving three stars is a mixture of bad oandemic crisis management as everybody was standing outside in less than 2m of distance, plus there is no means of transportation beyond the private shuttles. Otherwise, it's ok. But only if there is no crowd.

For us it was a positive surprise after reading some old reviews, it's a small airport but it was an advantage for us as we did not have to walk 10 kilometers with 2 small kids but we could get to the gate from the check-in counter in 10 minutes what is very unusual when flying with low cost airlines. However I can imagine if there are many flights scheduled close to each other it could be a problem if the airport is small, probably we were lucky this time.

Horrible airport. Not enough seats, the flight boarding is announced and people have to wait standing for 20mins, while the plane is nowhere to be seen. It should be expanded or rebuilt

Staff takes additional payments for a cabin baggage because in Her opinion is too big. I flied more then 20 times with this small travel case and I never had problem until now. She didn't measure it or something. Nothing, she just see it. We had to additional pay 50 Euro. We didn't receive any confirmation and money she put into the... pocket. Interesting...

Net-net, below average experience. Tip regarding the toilets: the ones on the left after the security check had long queues, while if you go to the area of A1-A8 gates, there is another toilet which did not have any queues at all - see the photos. Also, due to major queues inside the airport, strongly recommend to be 2h+ before the departure. Details of our experience: There were three queues to get through: for baggage drop-off, vaccination certification(“green pass”), and the security check with the one for the vaccination certification being the longest. Some of the people were not clear what was expected from them and were searching for the right document in their phones in the last minute which caused delays. Would be great if airport staff would put big signs clearly saying what is needed at this stage. On top of that, we were asked to show our vaccination certificates at the check-in, and even got some handwritten stickers for this check with the comment that with this sticker we will not need to show the certificates, however, ultimately when we got to the queue to show vaccination certificates, the official still asked to show the certificate again, which is a pure duplication and loss. There were long queues to the toilets which are on the left side after the checkin; while it turned out that there are other toilets in there the area with gates a1-a8, would be great if to the sign of the a1-a8 gates there would be signs showing that there are toilets there(as there are none). On the positive, there are seats with USB type charges.

There are few airports in the world which are worse than Ciampino. This airport should be demolished and built again. There are not enough seats in the waiting area prior to boarding. The security process is kind of slow. Boarding area is crowded and there’s no chance for social distancing. Understaffed of course. There is just one bar with huge prices. If by chance you can fly from Fiumicino, do it. Ciampino is a totally mess. For the smokers there are two smoking places limited for two people, which of course is never happening. Also you can find a duty free store which is more expensive than shops in Rome. Avoid it. A small bottle of water is over 2€ and a sandwich is around 5-6€.
