★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Istituita nel 1997 unitamente alle altre due Riserve Naturali della Val di Cecina, l'area protetta di Montenero si estende per 69 ettari attorno all'omonimo ed aspro rilievo in cui sono incastonati splendidi gioielli come le gole del torrente Strolla (con incantevoli cascatelle la più alta delle quali ha un salto di oltre 30 mt), il pinnacolo del Dente di Montenero (un artiglio di basalto dagli strapiombi mozzafiato), il laghetto delle orchidee, la Fonte del Latte (alla cui acqua veniva attribuita la proprietà di garantire il latte alle gestanti), i resti del Castello della Nera (X sec.) e dell'omonima Pieve (XI sec.). È in questa riserva che cresce il bellissimo Crocus etruscus, il raro zafferano di Toscana.
 Established in 1997 together with the other two Nature Reserves of the Val di Cecina, the protected area of Montenero extends for 69 hectares around the homonymous and rugged relief in which splendid jewels are set such as the gorges of the Strolla stream (with enchanting waterfalls the most of which it has a jump of over 30 meters), the pinnacle of the Dente di Montenero (a basalt claw with breathtaking overhangs), the orchid pond, the Fonte del Latte (whose water was attributed the property of guaranteeing milk to pregnant), the remains of the Castello della Nera (X century) and of the homonymous Pieve (XI century). It is in this reserve that the beautiful Crocus etruscus, the rare Tuscan saffron, grows.
