Rifugio Sebastiani

Needless to say !!! The shelter has been refurbished and is now a marvel ... Not that it wasn't before !! Getting there from Campo Felice is long but the slope is not excessive, from capo pezza to the p floors of pezza (Rocca di Mezzo) it is a little harder but also more suggestive. The location is strategic and the view takes your breath away and excites you !! Staying here one night and then going to the Velino the following day is really worth it. I went for a ride on a Tuesday and it was closed, but I think it should be open on weekends

Let's start immediately by saying: "luckily there is such a well made and well managed refuge" in the Apennines there are few managed refuges. After an important restyling, the Sebastiani refuge in the Velino-Sirente regional park is really as beautiful as the Dolomite ones (obviously making the necessary differences for the size). The rooms are not many but well done ... bathrooms present. The hall or rather the halls ... because there are two, they have beautiful windows that overlook the valleys below. As for the restaurant ... still a little spartan compared to the more famous Alpine or Dolomite refuges ... it offers a certainly satisfying menu. From polenta in mushroom and sausage version or with stew. Legume soup that is the end of the world. Then there are usually two or three side dishes .... like sauteed broccoli on toasted bread very tasty. Obviously the menus change .... they are very linked to the seasonality of the raw materials .... and then the desserts. The typical Abruzzese ones but above all the pies. Drinks ... in addition to purely red wine, there is a good choice of beers. Especially those of the Birreria del Borgo. There is no shortage of coffee and bitters / grappas. The service is fast and the employees who are often the same managers ... are very nice and very kind. A particular eye on sustainability. All the materials in the shelter are natural ... solar photovoltaic panels ... even takes the phone. It seems to me that the Wifi is not free ... but for those who stop and cannot communicate with the world I think you can ask for a password. The restaurant supplies are all biodegradable. And if you want a free coffee .... grab a bag of rubbish and take it to the nerds downstream when you go down. Good guys. Keep it up.

The panorama that can be enjoyed from the Sebastiani refuge is spectacular. I reached the Sebastiani refuge starting from the Alantino refuge in winter, with snowshoes to walk on the abundant snow cover. A beautiful trekking walk, demanding but not excessively. The route is suggestive because it is mixed between wooded and non-wooded stretches, always accompanied by views and panoramas that fill the eyes. The Sebastiani refuge offers a restaurant service, it is therefore possible to eat and drink, a toilet is also available.
