La Porta Orologio fu costruita nel XV secolo, spostando l'accesso alla cittadella fortificata "Castrum", verso il basso.
A destra della porta principale, ancora oggi è possibile notare la primitiva porta, costruita intorno al seicento. Insieme alla Porta del Colle, la sua funzione principale è quella di rispondere alle esigenze di difesa dell'abitato. Dal Medioevo in poi, c'è stato un incremento demografico tale che le nuove abitazioni venivano edificate lungo le mura preesistenti, case costruite in modo tale da poter formare un'altra cinta muraria, come gli anelli annuali degli alberi.
Infatti, il borgo medievale non è costituito da vere mura di difesa.
Le tre croci
Gli spazi collettivi erano racchiusi e controllati da case che venivano costruite con una disposizione a schiera, l'una addossata all'altra e costituivano un efficace mezzo di protezione contro scorrerie e malviventi. Ancora oggi, nonostante le modificazioni avvenute nei secoli, è possibile individuare le cerchia murarie che compongono il nucleo originario del paese.
Infine, sotto la Porta Orologio, sono presenti tre croci, scolpite nella pietra, che vengono attribuite a tre briganti che vennero impiccati nel XVI secolo dal Capitano Antino Tocco. Costui, aveva una milizia formata soprattutto da sandonatesi che:
''maneggiavano bene l'armi, et sono coraggiosi, et combattono volentieri con questi tristi, quando s'incontrano con loro havendo con essi particolare odio, et inimicitia, per haver qualche volta li banditi ammazzati de la genti di San Donato''.

The Clock Gate was built in the 15th century, moving the access to the fortified citadel "Castrum" downwards.
To the right of the main door, it is still possible to see the primitive door, built around the seventeenth century. Together with the Porta del Colle, its main function is to respond to the defense needs of the town. From the Middle Ages onwards, there has been a demographic increase such that new homes were built along the pre-existing walls, houses built in such a way as to be able to form another wall, like the annual tree rings.
In fact, the medieval village is not made up of real defense walls.
The three crosses
The collective spaces were enclosed and controlled by houses that were built with a terraced arrangement, one leaning against the other and constituted an effective means of protection against raids and criminals. Even today, despite the changes that have taken place over the centuries, it is possible to identify the walls that make up the original nucleus of the town.
Finally, under the Clock Gate, there are three crosses, carved in stone, which are attributed to three brigands who were hanged in the 16th century by Captain Antino Tocco. He had a militia formed above all by Sandonatesi who:
'' they handled arms well, and are courageous, and willingly fight with these sad ones, when they meet with them, having particular hatred with them, and hostility, for sometimes having the bandits killed by the people of San Donato ''.
