g	gio gio on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Porta Napoli fu realizzata da Ambrogio Attendolo alla fine del ‘500 per celebrare il regno di Filippo II, nell’ottica dell’ammodernamento delle fortificazioni cittadine Nel 1831 il portale fu spostato dalla sua ubicazione originaria: il ponte nuovo della SS Appia, per essere rimontato sulla precedente Porta Nugent realizzata nel 1819. A testimonianza di ciò l’incompatibilità tra l’apertura esterna e quella interna della porta, decisamente più grande in modo da permettere la presenza dei meccanismi per il ponte levatoio. L’armilla dell’arco trionfale, inquadrata tra semi colonne doriche su piedistallo che sorreggono l’architrave e il cornicione pure dorici, presenta una ricca decorazione scultorea raffigurante trofei e vittorie alate. Porta Napoli was built by Ambrogio Attandolo at the end of the 16th century to celebrate the reign of Philip II, with a view to modernizing the city fortifications.In 1831 the portal was moved from its original location: the new bridge of the SS Appia, to be reassembled on the previous Porta Nugent built in 1819. As evidence of this, the incompatibility between the external and internal opening of the door, decidedly larger in order to allow the presence of the mechanisms for the drawbridge. The armilla of the triumphal arch, framed between semi-Doric columns on a pedestal that support the Doric architrave and cornice, has a rich sculptural decoration depicting trophies and winged victories.

A	Alessandro Pace on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lungi dal conoscere tale località - se non per averne studiato qualcosa decenni fa - è indubbiamente un bell'esempio di buona conservazione delle mura storiche, in questo caso di Capua. La Porta Napoli e le mura, il ponte che attraversava - credo - l'antico fossato, è davvero molto affascinante. Buona conservazione globale, feci qualche fotografia analogica qualche settimana fa, il 21/10/2021 durante una giornata a tratti cupa. Peccato che c'è un po' di degrado nel fossato, con immondizia varia e nello spiazzo poco pulito perché evidentemente ci sono sempre incivili che lasciano i loro pasti per niente luculliani. Far from knowing this locality - if not for having studied something about it decades ago - it is undoubtedly a good example of good conservation of the historic walls, in this case of Capua. The Porta Napoli and the walls, the bridge that crossed - I think - the ancient moat, is really very fascinating. Good overall conservation, I took some analogue photos a few weeks ago, on 10/21/2021 during a sometimes dark day. Too bad there is a bit of degradation in the moat, with various garbage and in the unclean clearing because obviously there are always uncivilized people who leave their meals for nothing lucullian.
