★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Antico luogo di culto sacrificale. Posizionato sotto il livello stradale. Con affreschi e vasche sacrificali. Scendendo nel sottosuolo di Santa Maria C.V,. si esplorano luoghi magnifici. Si suppone che da questo luogo si potesse raggiungere il magnifico Anfiteatro Romano.
 Ancient sacrificial place of worship. Positioned below street level. With frescoes and sacrificial tanks. Descending into the subsoil of Santa Maria C.V ,. magnificent places are explored. It is assumed that from this place the magnificent Roman Amphitheater could be reached.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il mitreo è bellissimo, scoperto negli anni 20 per caso, ancora si vede il "buco" che permise la scoperta durante dei lavori alla rete idrica. La parete affrescata con Mitra è tuttora completa di tutte le figure simboliche con i colori ancora ben conservati. Belli gli affreschi sul soffitto e quel poco che rimane sulle pareti. Attenzione a organizzare la visita prendendo il biglietto presso l'anfiteatro che comprende la visita oltre a questo anche del museo archeologico e del mitreo.
The mitreo is beautiful, discovered in the 20's by chance, yet we see the "hole" that allowed the discovery during work on the water network. The frescoed wall with Mitra is still full of all the symbolic figures with the colors still well preserved. Beautiful frescoes on the ceiling and the little that remains on the walls. Attention to organize the visit by taking the ticket at the amphitheater which includes the visit as well as the archaeological museum and the mitreo.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Mitreo was not accessible but the adjacent museum had a small collection of pottery and other archeological artefacts on the ground floor. The second floor had a projector display of the inside of the Mitreo alongside other artefacts. Some of the information panels had both Italian and English text.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I only gave it 3 stars because it's not open. My Italian is not good, but I think it's closure is due to some sort of renovation. It may have been due to the inordinate amount of rain at the end of March and beginning of April when we were there. Not certain.
I was disappointed because this was an ancient underground temple and well preserved. You can read the history of this and other Mithraic temples in Europe online. Local museums have artifacts from the Mitreo.
