R	Roberta Veronelli on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In una delle piazze Il Palazzo dell'Arengo era simbolo della libertà e della affermata autorità del governo. Imponente edificio in stile romanico e gotico. La costruzione originaria è stata alterata dagli interventi di ristrutturazione compiuti nei vari secoli. Il loggiato rappresenta la parte più autentica dell'edificio costruito nel per volontà del podestà di Rimini Modio dei Carbonesi, come testimonia l’epigrafe tuttora visibile in uno dei pilastri. La tradizione narra espressamente che nella zona del loggiato a livello strada, meglio dichiarato come il luogo ove i notai tenevano banco e veniva pubblicamente amministrata la giustizia, fosse presente il grosso masso, detto lapis magnum. Il lapis magnum era la pena degli ingiusti e dei debitori che erano condannati a battere tre volte con il sedere nudo su di esso, pronunciando a voce alta la formula cedo bonis. Infine è impossibile non notare l’antica torre campanaria che accompagna il palazzo, originariamente destinato anche a luogo di detenzione. Finally, it is impossible not to notice the ancient bell tower that accompanies the building, originally intended also as a place of detention.
