Al centro della facciata una nicchia custodisce una madonna. The town hall overlooks the Piazza del Duomo. The square, paved with cobblestones, is a meeting place for the Modenese. In the center of the façade a niche holds a Madonna.

Molto bella la sala del vecchio consiglio comunale, quella del camino e quella dove viene conservata la Secchia rapita. Di fianco ad esso si erge maestosa la cattedrale, ovvero il duomo di Modena, il cui nome ufficiale in realtà è cattedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta in cielo e San Giminiano. È il palazzo del comune di Modena, i locali al piano terra presentano una serie di bassorilievi che decorano l’arco di ingresso della “Loggia delle contrattazioni”, opera di Benito Boccolari e Dante Zamboni (1938), ricordando l’antica funzione commerciale di quegli spazi. All’interno, meravigliose sale affrescate e, nell’uscita retrostante, l’interessante statua della Medusa. Merita davvero una visita. A beautiful palace, which hides an older, medieval structure. Nel nel cortile che si trova sul retro del Palazzo, si trova la statua in marmo del Perseo in stile neoclassico. Sono visitabili le belle sale storiche tra cui: * Il Camerino dei Confirmati dove è custodito un simbolo della città: la Secchia rapita ai bolognesi con la vittoria della battaglia di Zappolino. * La Sala del Fuoco dove d'inverno potevano accedere i commercianti della piazza per riscaldarsi davanti alle braci. * La Sala del Vecchio Consiglio con soffitto decorato da Schedoni e Dell'Abate. * La Sala degli Arazzi dove alcuni dipinti imitano le tappezzerie ad arazzo in voga in Francia nel 700. * La Sala dei matrimoni dove si trova un antico organetto.
