★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Palazzo Asmundo di Gisira fu edificato dopo il terribile terremoto del 1693 che rase al suolo Catania e i suoi palazzi, le sue chiese, i suoi monasteri. Eppure, qualche anno dopo, i privati ancora prima del governo, iniziarono la ricostruzione che rese la città celebre nel mondo per il suo Barocco nero, costruito con blocchi estratti dalla lava. Palazzo Asmundo fu tra i primi palazzi ad essere edificato nella piazza San Filippo oggi piazza Mazzini.
 Palazzo Asmundo di Gisira was built after the terrible earthquake of 1693 that razed Catania and its buildings, churches and monasteries to the ground. Yet, a few years later, private individuals even before the government, began the reconstruction that made the city famous in the world for its black Baroque, built with blocks extracted from the lava. Palazzo Asmundo was among the first buildings to be built in Piazza San Filippo, today Piazza Mazzini.
