★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Luogo storico molto interessante. Ruderi dell'oratorio di santa Caterina che è stato bombardato durante la seconda guerra mondiale il 27 agosto 1944. Rimangono pochi resti ma vale la pena visitarlo. Da qui si ha anche una bella vista sulla baia del silenzio.
Very interesting historical place. Ruins of the oratory of Saint Catherine which was bombed during the Second World War on 27 August 1944. There are few remains but it is worth a visit. From here you also have a nice view of the quiet bay.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Suggestiva la posizione di questi ruderi, non di praticale valore, ma caratteristici. Luogo ben curato e molto graziosa la statua della Santa. Dalla parte alta di intravvede un meraviglioso panorama sulla Baia del silenzio.
The position of these ruins is suggestive, not of practical value, but characteristic. The statue of the Saint is well-kept and very pretty. From the upper part of it glimpses a wonderful panorama of the Bay of silence.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Originario Oratorio di Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, antica sede della Confraternita di Santa Caterina Vergine Martire (ora nella chiesa di San Pietro in Vincoli), edificato sulla penisola di Sestri Levante nei pressi della chiesa medievale di San Nicolò dell’Isola, fu distrutto dal bombardamento aereo alleato del 27 Agosto 1944; soltanto pochi giorni prima, gran parte dell’importante patrimonio artistico-religioso presente all’interno dell’edificio era stato prudentemente messo al riparo nelle chiese vicine. Rimangono i solenni resti che la Confraternita ancora custodisce come “sacrario della memoria”, espressamente dedicato al ricordo delle vittime dei bombardamenti bellici. Panorama stupendo sulla Baia del Silenzio. Eccezionalmente il sito viene aperto al pubblico durante le Giornate FAI o per ospitare manifestazioni.
Original Oratory of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, ancient seat of the Confraternity of Saint Catherine the Virgin Martyr (now in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli), built on the peninsula of Sestri Levante near the medieval church of San Nicolò dell'Isola, was destroyed by Allied air bombardment of 27 August 1944; only a few days earlier, much of the important artistic and religious heritage present within the building had prudently been sheltered in the nearby churches. The solemn remains remain that the Brotherhood still holds as a "memorial shrine", expressly dedicated to the memory of the victims of war bombings. Wonderful view over the Bay of Silence. Exceptionally, the site is open to the public during FAI Days or to host events.

A place of memory: an ancient oratory dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, destroyed by Allied bombing on 27 August 1944. A plaque commemorates the event. Spectacular view of the Bay of Silence and beautiful walk towards the promontory of Sestri Levante.
