★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In passato l’oratorio era la chiesa di San Desiderio; le prime informazioni risalgono al 1300 circa, quando la chiesa faceva parte di un monastero femminile benedettino. Nel 1440 il monastero fu soppresso e dieci anni dopo il luogo fu trasformato in un ospedale per i pellegrini. Nel 1515 il complesso fu riportato alla sua funzione originale di monastero e affidato alle suore francescane. Nel periodo che va dal 1515 al 1574 (anno della morte del committente) fu realizzato un importante affresco da Sebastiano Vini.
Nel Novecento, durante la guerra, l’edificio fu usato come deposito.
L’affresco della ex chiesa di San Desiderio è considerato l’opera più importante di Sebastiano Vini e rappresenta il Martirio dei Diecimila, un episodio narrato nel Catalogus Sanctorum et gestorum eorumdel vescovo Pietro de’ Natali. In particolare l’affresco riporta la storia del centurione Acacio, che con solo 9000 soldati, combattendo in nome di Cristo, riuscì a sconfiggere un esercito di 100000 uomini. Questa storia viene rappresentata da Vini senza un ordine cronologico preciso; i vari episodi sono distribuiti in diverse parti della scena.
In the past the oratory was the church of San Desiderio; the first information dates back to about 1300, when the church was part of a Benedictine monastery. In 1440 the monastery was suppressed and ten years later the place was transformed into a hospital for pilgrims. In 1515 the complex was restored to its original function as a monastery and entrusted to the Franciscan nuns. In the period from 1515 to 1574 (year of the death of the client) an important fresco by Sebastiano Vini was made.
In the twentieth century, during the war, the building was used as a warehouse.
The fresco of the former church of San Desiderio is considered the most important work of Sebastiano Vini and represents the Martyrdom of the Ten Thousand, an episode narrated in the Catalogus Sanctorum et gestorum eorumdel bishop Pietro de 'Natali. In particular, the fresco shows the story of the centurion Acacius, who with only 9000 soldiers, fighting in the name of Christ, succeeded in defeating an army of 100,000 men. This story is represented by Vini without a precise chronological order; the various episodes are distributed in different parts of the scene.
