Si comprende bene come questo ducato fosse un centro culturale sviluppatissimo e completamente autonomo. Una vera spina nel fianco per il papato. Unica nota dolente: l'ingresso del museo è segnalato malissimo, se si segue il primo cartello "Ingresso" quando si entra in piazza d'armi per vedere il cartello servirebbe girarsi di 180 gradi per notare il cartello dietro l'angolo, mentre l'attenzione è ovviamente tutta rapita dalla bellezza della struttura che si ha di fronte.
