A little, but beautiful museum with the finds of the statues that were located outside in the Grotto. The statues represent characters from the Odyssea by Homer, including Odysseus himself and his mates, who are picking out the eye of the Cylope Polyphemos. Other statues are Scilla, the monster with dogs growing out of her body that attacked Odysseus' ship and Diomedes and the Palladion (statuette of Athena which he and Odysseus stole from Troy). Outside you'll see the remains of the villa of emperor Tiberius (1st century) who nearly died when the ceiling of the grotto came down. Plusses for this museum are: no mass tourism here, you are virtually alone. Very friendly staff! From the beach you have a great view on the coty of Sperlonga.

The museum is small but the roman age sculptures are beautifully displayed. An external track brings to the villa and to the cave, however externally there are no signs or explanations.

The Archaeological Museum holds incredible treasures found 1957 in the grotto of Tiberius' s Villa in Sperlonga: the four sculptural marble groups (Polyphemus, Scylla, Palladium and Pasquino group - scenes taken from Homer's Adventures of Odysseus ), portraits, images of divinities, mosaic fragments, masks, and many other interesting Roman artefacts. Very worth seeing!!
