Deconsecrated and renovated church which is now part of the city museum. Very nice, interesting contrast with contemporary art on display.

In questa nuova funzione, accoglie la collezione di arte contemporanea, in un allestimento non totalmente in sintonia con l'originale aspetto rococò degli interni. Peccato per la piazza, un enorme parcheggio che sottrae decoro all'edificio e non monumentalizza lo spazio aperto che fa da ingresso al quartiere Venezia, ma lo condanna ancora una volta a un contesto di persistente incuria. The church, partly in ruins due to the war bombings that involved the port area, was recovered thanks to a recent restoration and is now included in the complex of the Bottini Civic Oil Museum. In this new function, it houses the contemporary art collection, in a setting not totally in tune with the original Rococo look of the interiors. Too bad for the square, a huge parking lot that detracts from the decoration of the building and does not monumentalize the open space that forms the entrance to the Venice district, but condemns it once again to a context of persistent neglect.

La costruzione della chiesa è legata alla realizzazione di un orfanotrofio per povere orfane, detto appunto Luogo Pio (o Case Pie), nel quale veniva data assistenza ed educazione alle giovani. Il cartiglio marmoreo posto sopra il portale sostituisce l'originaria iscrizione distrutta dai Francesi nel 1799. Diversi anni dopo i bombardamenti della seconda guerra mondiale, le Case Pie furono abbattute pur non riportando gravi danni da pregiudicarne la sopravvivenza: la chiesa si trovò quindi isolata in mezzo ad un vasto piazzale, ridotto negli anni ad uso di parcheggio. Dopo alcuni restauri avvenuti intorno al 1990, il piccolo luogo di culto, sconsacrato e di proprietà comunale, è stato affidato alla Chiesa cristiana avventista del settimo giorno ed in estate ha ospitato regolarmente eventi legati alla manifestazione di "Effetto Venezia". The church of Posto Pio, originally known as the church of the Assumption of the Virgin and of San Giuseppe, is a deconsecrated place of worship. The construction of the church is linked to the construction of an orphanage for poor orphans, called precisely Posto Pio (or Case Pie), in which assistance and education were given to young women. The marble scroll placed above the portal replaces the original inscription destroyed by the French in 1799. Several years after the bombings of the Second World War, the Case Pie were demolished although they did not report serious damage to jeopardize their survival: the church was therefore isolated in the middle of a large square, reduced over the years to use as a parking lot. After some restorations that took place around 1990, the small place of worship, deconsecrated and owned by the municipality, was entrusted to the Seventh Day Adventist Church and in summer it regularly hosted events related to the "Effetto Venezia" event.

Lo spazio che si crea rende ancora più belle le opere che lo occupano. Unusual but very successful marriage between modern and contemporary art and a church which, although stripped of almost everything, is solemnly preserved thanks to marble and light. The space that is created makes the works that occupy it even more beautiful.
