Testimone dei Medici a Livorno, andrebbe trovato il modo di facilitarne la visita. Purtroppo di trova all'interno del porto e non è visitabile neanche dall'esterno, senza particolari autorizzazioni. Per poterla vedere dall'esterno occorre una barca perché la torre si trova dentro al porto in una parte nn accessibile al pubblico. l	luca cordoni on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ la torre del marzocco è stata edificata dai fiorentini (il leone del marzocco infatti è uno dei simboli di firenze) al posto della "torre vermiglia", una delle 3 torri (insieme alla "torre magnale", "torre maltarchiata") piu' importanti che stavano a guardia e segnalazione dell'antico porto pisano (detto per questo anche di "triturrita") proprio per sancire la presa in possesso di un tratto di costa per centinaia di anni appartenuto alla repubblica marinara di pisa. una volta caduta l'egemonia commerciale e militare di pisa su quel tratto di mar tirreno e mediterraneo il porto pisano cadde sotto l'egemonia genovese prima e fiorentina poi e le torri suo simbolo vennero abbattute o abbandonate nell'incuria totale (i resti di una delle altre due torri pisane-la "torre maltarchiata"_ si ritrovano in quella specie di "mozzicone"presente all'ingresso del porto mediceo). le torri sono il segno tangibile della imponenza dell'antico porto pisano che si sviluppava sino all'altezza dell'odierna terrazza mascagni di livorno attraverso un sistema di canali , palafitte e banchine in legno. purtroppo il tutto ormai rimane celato dal mare o insabbiato nell'odierna campagna di stagno e coltano. interessante infine è ricordare come le grandi catene che univano le tre grandi torri del porto pisano chiudendone simbolicamente gli ingressi sono state restituite solamente dopo l'unità d'italia da genova (che le aveva prese a guisa di bottino di guerra dopo la vittoria della famosa battaglia della meloria) alla città di pisa che le custodisce adesso presso il "camposanto monumentale" di piazza dei miracoli. Edificata nel XV secolo non è dato sapere chi ne fu l'artefice, ma si pensa a grandi architetti dell'epoca Brunelleschi e Ghiberti sono due dei progettisti più accreditati. Si è pensato anche potesse essere opera di Leon Battista Alberti ma non ci sono documenti che possano confermare. Purtroppo oggi sorge all'interno dell'area portuale in una zona ad accesso limitato, perciò non soltanto la visita, ma anche la semplice visione esterna è piuttosto difficile. Le torri erano di differente altezza.
