Purtroppo il Museo lapidario, che conserva dei tesori di arte scultorea medievale è totalmente privo di qualsiasi didascalia o pannello illustrativo. Nel bookshop è presente una piccola guida breve ma non è affatto esauriente. Consiglio di realizzare un pannello in cui associare con dei numeri le opere alle loro collocazioni originali nel Duomo. E magari qualche riferimento cronologico. È un peccato non sia valorizzato perché è un tesoro importante. The Museum on the first floor is well cared for and although the objects were not in my main area of interest I appreciated. Unfortunately, the Lapidary Museum, which preserves treasures of medieval sculptural art, is totally devoid of any caption or illustrative panel. In the bookshop there is a small short guide but it is by no means exhaustive. I recommend creating a panel in which to associate the works with their numbers to their original locations in the Duomo. And maybe some chronological references. It is a pity it is not valued because it is an important treasure.

Al primo piano nel museo lapidario sono da vedere assolutamente i bassorilievi con i bestiari mentre nel primo piano troverete le monete trovate nella tomba di San Geminiano! Tanto altro vi aspetta, visita consigliata!!! Museum to visit absolutely. On the first floor in the lapidary museum the bas-reliefs with bestiaries are absolutely worth seeing, while on the first floor you will find the coins found in the tomb of San Geminiano! Much more awaits you, recommended visit !!!

I	Ilaria Orlandini on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Questo museo è ricompreso in un biglietto cumulativo, del costo di 6 euro, che consente l'accesso anche a: torre campanaria Ghirlandina, sale del palazzo comunale, acetaia comunale (fabbrica dell'aceto). Quando sono andata io il piano superiore del museo era chiuso per restauro, quindi ho pagato un biglietto di 3 euro per visitare il solo piano terra, composto dal cortile e da due sale. Consiglio di scaricare l'app UNESCO, almeno avrete una breve guida di alcuni pezzi qui contenuti. In particolare l'arca di San Gimignano, che originariamente ricopriva la reliquie del Santo in cattedrale, il leone stiloforo di una delle porte laterali del Duomo ed il pezzo forte del museo: la serie di metope scolpite da un artigiano operante nella cerchia di Wiligelmo. Si tratta di opere eccezionali, che rappresentano, probabilmente, le personificazioni dei popoli più lontani e sconosciuti della terra, almeno per gli occidentali del XII secolo. Ci sono una sirena con doppia coda, un drago, una donna con tre braccia, una fanciulla a testa in giù e tante altre magnifiche stranezze! This museum is included in a cumulative ticket, costing 6 euros, which also allows access to: Ghirlandina bell tower, halls of the town hall, municipal vinegar factory (vinegar factory). When I went, the upper floor of the museum was closed for restoration, so I paid a 3 euro ticket to visit the ground floor only, consisting of the courtyard and two rooms. I recommend downloading the UNESCO app, at least you will have a short guide to some of the pieces contained here. In particular, the ark of San Gimignano, which originally covered the relics of the Saint in the cathedral, the column-bearing lion of one of the side doors of the Cathedral and the highlight of the museum: the series of metopes sculpted by an artisan working in Wiligelmo's circle. These are exceptional works, which probably represent the personifications of the most distant and unknown peoples of the earth, at least for the westerners of the twelfth century. There is a double-tailed mermaid, a dragon, a three-armed woman, an upside-down maiden and many other wonderful oddities!
