Realizzato dallo scultore Salvatore Buemi e fuso presso le Regie Fonderie di Torino, il Monumento fu inaugurato il 20 Settembre 1899 alla presenza di S. A. R. il Duca D’Aosta. Scopo di questo lavoro è quello di riscoprire il contesto storico e la motivazione che spinse un’intera città a mobilitarsi per conservare la memoria di una grande tragedia, che interessò l’intero Paese e per onorare gli artiglieri caduti sotto il fuoco nemico. The Monument to the Masotto Battery, is the memory that Messina wanted to erect, with a large and generous fundraiser, which involved other cities of the Island, in memory of those Sicilians who, to satisfy the colonialist policy of the then Crispi Government, left their own from Messina to go to die in Adua on March 1, 1896. Created by the sculptor Salvatore Buemi and merged at the Royal Foundries of Turin, the Monument was inaugurated on 20 September 1899 in the presence of S. A. R. the Duca d'Aosta. The purpose of this work is to rediscover the historical context and the motivation that drove an entire city to mobilize to preserve the memory of a great tragedy, which interested the entire country and to honor the artillerymen who fell under enemy fire.

La scultura in bronzo raffigura tre militari in guerra posti su una base quadrangolare dove vi sono poste delle targhe con in nomi degli ufficiali e dei soldati caduti in quella battaglia, inoltre ai lati del monumento si trovano i cannoni delle Batterie recuperati dai soldati. Infine ogni anno viene organizzata una manifestazione di commemorazione, in cui viene posta una corona di alloro ai piedi del monumento, dal 24° reggimento artiglieria Peloritani, con la partecipazione della Banda Musicale della Brigata Aosta. #Messina #StraitofMessina A very important monument in Messina is that of the Masotto Battery Fallen in the battle of Adua in 1896, which was created by the sculptor Salvatore Buemi.
