A	Antonio D'ostuni on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Torre dell’Orso fu edificata a picco sul mare, su di un alto sperone roccioso che poi si arresta bruscamente per lasciare posto ad un lungo tratto di spiaggia che caratterizza l’omonima località balneare. La costruzione fu affidata al maestro leccese Giovanni Tommaso Garrapa. A testimonianza di questo vi è un documento del 27 settembre 1567, in cui si registra che egli recevette cento ducati per la costruzione della torre. L’opera però subì dei rallentamenti a causa della sua morte. Il 12 dicembre 1580, il maestro Angelo Garrapa, fratello ed erede di Tommaso, che ultimò i lavori, cercava ancora di riscuotere il saldo dei lavori delle torri. Il procuratore dell’università di Borgagne, Bartolomeo Petruzzo, ricevette il compito di armare la torre. Torre dell’Orso rientra nella categoria di torri tipiche del Regno. L’importante rudere della torre, danneggiato dall’erosione degli agenti atmosferici, ha subito un vistoso crollo in spigolo monte-sud che ci permette di osservare la volta interna del piano agibile. Esistono ancora tracce delle piombatoie. Queste erano in origine tre per ogni lato, ricavate in spessore di muro e si distinguevano bene nel corpo quadrangolare scarpato della torre. Il luogo risultava difficilmente controllabile da altre posizioni, la torre comunicava visivamente a sud con Torre Sant’Andrea, oggi sostituita dal faro, e a nord con la gemella Torre Roca Vecchia. Al di sotto della torre, nella tenera pietra del costone roccioso, si aprono diverse cavità, che costituiscono un sito rupestre frequentato fin dall’antichità. Nell’ottobre 2020, la Regione Puglia ha riconosciuto un contributo per la “manutenzione straordinaria, restauro e messa in sicurezza della Torre costiera. Tratto da: Torri costiere del Salento.
