Nessun preavviso all'inizio della salita. Eravamo con due bimbe piccole. È stata un'esperienza davvero terrificante.
I put 1 star not for the archaeological site (we didn't get there) but for the street. The last piece of the road is steep and narrow without any protection with ravines on both sides. We lived a nightmare 10 minutes without knowing whether to continue or go back down. In the end we made the maneuver to return with our hearts in our mouths because we risked falling into one of the ravines. Never, never would I have imagined such a road. No warning at the start of the climb. We were with two small girls. It was a truly terrifying experience.

You can drive up to the top, even if the road narrows, it is easy to drive on. A sensational view. Ways to walk well.

To get to the site, unfortunately you have to go along a narrow road that is steeply sloping, the last stretch of road is concrete, steep and narrow. But don't be discouraged as the site is worth it for both its archaeological significance and spectacular view.
The ancient city of Adranon was a Greek-Punic settlement of the period between the eighth and third centuries BC. which was destroyed around the third century BC. The imposing ruins believed to reveal the strategic importance of the center as they dominated the road that connected Selinunte with Akragas
The archaeological site consists of a first part where the Necropolis is located, where the monumental Tomb of the Queen is located. Continuing on, you can see the city walls, the artisan and commercial district and a Sanctuary surrounded by a temenos, a sacred enclosure, and preceded by a chapel, where the votive offerings of the faithful were collected. On the top is the sacred area of the Acropolis.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Complesso archeologico antichissimo e interessante ben tenuto e ben presentato in panorama brullo e desolato.
Very ancient and interesting archaeological complex well maintained and well presented in a barren and desolate landscape. It is impressive to see how the first indigenous peoples of the island settled in such inaccessible areas. The settlement is on the top of a mountain that has a strategic defensive position with a wide view of the surrounding area. The landscape itself, so rugged, is worth a visit. But getting there is really difficult: I found it difficult to take the car up hairpin bends in certain steep and narrow places on the road with many holes. Eventually I left the car in an open space and walked the rest of the climb. Today there was an icy wind that knocked your ears off, but I imagine that in the summer there is a sun that breaks the stones, no area of shelter in the shade for the visit. For all these reasons, be careful. The visit is free and before going it is good to go to the archaeological museum of Sambuca, also free, which has a collection from the site and a very comprehensive explanation. The archaeological site closes at 1pm.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do not be discouraged by tricky road access. Press on. A major Greek-Punic city barely touched by archaeologists. Location spectacular like a Sicilian Machu Pichu. Many finds still in situ. Any keen archaeologist will be in geek heaven interpreting what’s there. Warden friendly and has info sheets in English. Site and access looking a bit unloved. But it’s archaeology not a theme park. Walk all the way to top of mountain. Sandals OK, shoes better.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The last section of road is concrete, steep and narrow. On our trip there a tractor was coming down as we went up. Luckily there was enough room for us to get far enough to the right that the tractor, although far towards the steep hillside was able to get past. Be sure to get your admission tickets in Sambuca at the municipal office before you head up! They will want to show you their little museum when you purchase your tickets. Be ready to do some serious hill walking.
