Since 1959 the Palazzo della Farnesina has housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: with 1,320 rooms, originally built to house the headquarters of the National Fascist Party, in the 1950s it was converted to house the offices of the Ministry, then dispersed in thirteen branch offices. The building, with a façade 169 meters long and 51 meters high, boasts a volume of 720,000 m³ which places it, together with the Royal Palace of Caserta, among the largest buildings in Italy.

Si distingue dai cosiddetti Orti Farnesiani, sul Palatino, e dalla villa Farnesina, alla Lungara, l'area era conosciuta con il nome "la Farnesina". È un palazzo voluminoso grande quasi quanto la Reggia di Caserta. Fuori dal palazzo della Farnesina si trova un'opera chiamata Sfera grande di Arnaldo Pomodoro; l'opera era stata concepita per l'Expo di Montréal del 1967 e poi fu ubicata fuori dal palazzo. The name "Farnesina" derives from the fact that this building stands on an area owned by Pope Paul III Farnese. It differs from the so-called Orti Farnesiani, on the Palatine, and from the villa Farnesina, at Lungara, the area was known with the name "la Farnesina". It is a massive palace almost as big as the Royal Palace of Caserta. Outside the Palazzo della Farnesina there is a work called Sfera grande by Arnaldo Pomodoro; the work was conceived for the 1967 Montreal Expo and was then located outside the building.

Q	QUIRINO MARTELLINI on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ieri 21 febbraio 2020 mi son recato presso questa sede ministeriale per un Business Summit Italia-Azerbaijan, dopo molti anni dall'ultima visita. Sarà stato il periodo, ma la struttura architettonica ed in generale l'atmosfera interna mi sono risultate fredde e distanti. Al contrario, l'esterno risulta essere ampio, soleggiato e comunque monumentale. Particolare è la grande Sala dei Congressi e delle Riunioni dove parte dei posti a sedere riservati agli ospiti sono situati ai lati per consentire una migliore modulazione dello spazio centrale alle numerose Delegazioni estere. Yesterday 21 February 2020 I went to this ministerial seat for an Italy-Azerbaijan Business Summit, many years after the last visit. It may have been the period, but the architectural structure and in general the internal atmosphere turned out to be cold and distant. On the contrary, the exterior is large, sunny and in any case monumental. Particular is the large Conference and Meeting Room where part of the seats reserved for guests are located on the sides to allow a better modulation of the central space for the numerous foreign Delegations.
M	Massimo Ferrarelli on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Palazzo maestoso del ventennio. Lodevole la possibilità di visitarlo toccando con mano il lavoro della diplomazia italiana. Al suo interno sono custodite magnifiche opere d'arte italiane del XX secolo. Veramente interessante la visita all'unità di crisi ed alla divisione messaggi cifrati con spiegazioni delle tecniche di cifratura usate dalla preistoria sino agli anni '80. Grazie al Touring Club per l'operato dei suoi volontari. Majestic palace of the twenty years. The opportunity to visit it is commendable, touching the work of Italian diplomacy first hand. Inside there are magnificent Italian works of art of the twentieth century. The visit to the crisis unit and to the encrypted message division with explanations of the encryption techniques used from prehistoric times up to the 1980s is really interesting. Thanks to the Touring Club for the work of its volunteers.
